Who We Are

We are democratic leaders supporting the Illinois House Democratic Caucus in fighting for equality, justice, and opportunity for all. Under the leadership of House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch, Democrats for Illinois House (DIH) is dedicated to promoting the excellent work of the caucus, winning competitive races, and serving with integrity.

The Illinois House Democratic Caucus is one of the most diverse in the nation. We are proud to celebrate the diversity of our members and caucuses representing Black (22), Latinx (11), Asian American (8), Women (42), and LGBTQ+ (2) members. DIH is committed to creating an environment that is inclusive and welcoming to all people.

We are committed to electing state House Democrats from Cairo to Chicago and mobilizing voters and candidates across the state who can build a better Illinois for our generation and generations to come.

What We Believe

Democrats for the Illinois House believe in the ability of legislators to create a strong and inclusive state government that works for the people. We demand a better future for our state and communities, and we are working hard to build it.

The economy should work for everyone; quality healthcare is a human right; diversity makes us stronger; ethics must be our cornerstone; and with strong elected officials in place, the state of Illinois can help its residents enjoy liberty, justice, and a strong democracy.

Our members are dedicated to doing the work in Springfield to create a thriving and inclusive state. We turn advocacy into action by demonstrating fiscal responsibility, working to create more jobs and educational opportunities, pushing public safety initiatives, protecting our seniors and vulnerable populations, investing in our communities, making healthcare more affordable, fighting for equal protection for all people, supporting women’s rights, setting a new standard on ethics, and safeguarding our democracy.

What We Do

Here at Democrats for the Illinois House, we invite fellow Democrats and residents of Illinois to join us in our goal to build a better Illinois and join our fight for equality, justice, and opportunity for all.

With the support of Democrats like you, we’ve helped elect more diverse Democrats into the House, helped pass criminal justice and public safety reforms, grew our state rainy day fund to exceed $1 billion, received six credit upgrades, gave $1.8 billion dollars in property tax relief for working families, and codified women’s reproductive rights into state law.

Our caucus of Democratic Party supporters advocates for the goals of our Speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives, Emanuel “Chris” Welch and our members. As a presiding caucus and party leader, Welch is the first black lawmaker to become the Speaker of the House in Illinois and has since advocated for a more efficient and responsive government, improved classroom education, and promoted greater diversity and opportunities for everyone in the state.

Ways to Get Involved

To support us and the political goals of Democrats in the Illinois House of Representatives, get involved today. First, you can support us by participating in one or more of our upcoming events. You can also apply to our many job or volunteer opportunities to work directly with us and help strengthen our cause. We rely on the assistance of our many volunteers and employees to help make our efforts and events a success.

Another way to get involved with us is simply by registering to vote and voting for Democrats up and down the ticket. You can register to vote directly from our website so that when it comes time to vote on the state or national level, you’re good to go.
