Bill expanding infertility coverage heads to Gov. Pritzker’s desk
SPRINGFIELD (WGEM) – A bill expanding infertility coverage, including in vitro fertilization, is heading to Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker’s desk.
The state House of Representatives passed a bill Tuesday expanding coverage. It would require all insurers offering pregnancy-related benefits to cover infertility treatments. It would also require insurers to cover an unlimited number of IVF cycles. They’re currently only required to cover four.
“The decision to undergo additional rounds of IVF should be left to a medical provider and his/her patient and not dictated by financial limitations,” said state Rep. Margaret Croke, D-Chicago, the bill’s House sponsor.
The bill would also employer-sponsored plans with more than 25 employees to cover at least one annual menopause visit for women over 45.
The state Senate passed the bill with near unanimous support on April 11.
