Chicago — Following the announcement that Chicago will be the host city for the 2024 Democratic National Convention, Midwestern leaders are speaking out about the decision and welcoming the convention to America’s heartland.

Chicago is expected to receive an economic boost of $150 to $200 million from hosting the convention, derived from the projected attendance of 50,000 visitors. A Chicago convention will also create thousands of good-paying, local union jobs.

“Bringing the 2024 DNC Convention back to the Midwest is the right choice,” said Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers. “We know that common-sense, progressive ideas work and make every community stronger, and there’s no place better to highlight that than the Midwest. I’m excited to join Governor Pritzker in welcoming Democrats from across the nation to Chicago next year as we highlight everything that Democrats have accomplished, and the work we have left to do.”

“Illinois is a model for the nation when it comes to building a stronger, fairer economy, embracing our diversity, and protecting democratic ideals,” said U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL). “Chicago is the perfect setting for this event, and the entire Midwest region will reap the economic benefits. A great city will host a great party!”

“This is a great choice and reinforces that to win the White House, it’s critical for Democrats to win in the Midwest,” said U.S. Senator Gary Peters (D-MI).

“Chicago is a union town with a long history of advancing civil and workers’ rights,” said U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH). “It is the right choice for the Democratic National Convention as we continue fighting for the Dignity of Work, lower costs for families, and the opportunity for everyone to join the middle class.”

“I’m so glad to see the DNC is coming to the midwest next year,” said U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI). “The decisive results we saw in Wisconsin’s Supreme Court race recently prove that Democrats win when they invest in the Midwest, and that’s exactly what our party is doing by hosting its convention here.”

“The Midwest is the perfect place for the DNC Convention,” said U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI). “Thanks to our plan to invest in America, Democrats are lowering costs and bringing jobs back home to the Midwest and across our country.”

“It’s a great point of pride that Chicago has been selected to host the 2024 Democratic National Convention,” said United Airlines President Brett Hart. “As Chicago’s hometown airline, United looks forward to welcoming and connecting leaders and visitors to our great city.”

“Chicago’s hotel community is thrilled to host the 2024 Democratic National Convention,” said President and CEO of the Illinois Hotel and Lodging Association Michael Jacobson. “The DNC will bring tens of thousands of visitors to the region and will showcase the entire State of Illinois and everything we have to offer. Tourism is the backbone of Chicago’s economy, and the DNC will give hotels and their employees a much-needed boost and showcase to the world all the great things Chicago has to offer. The economic benefits of hosting this convention will extend beyond Chicago’s city limits and will last for years to come. IHLA is proud to have been part of the bid process and to have worked with our hotel members and other partners to put together an unbeatable proposal. No other city is better equipped to host an event of this scale, and Chicago’s hotels look forward to welcoming delegates and visitors in 2024.”
